Hurricane Michael By T.W. Tramm FOLLOWING a summer of record-breaking fires, storms, rainfall, floods, high temperatures, and seismic activity, another unusually powerful storm threatens the US. The National Weather Service office in Florida is saying Hurricane Michael could be a catastrophic event for the northeastern Gulf Coast, the most powerful hurricane to make landfall in the region in over a decade. It’s not only seismic and weather phenomena surging this year, we’re also seeing extremes in the social, financial, geopolitical, and epidemiological realms: growing hostilities between ethnic and political groups; record economic activity in some nations while others teeter on the brink of collapse; new and resurgent disease outbreaks around the globe; and war drums beating louder: the Middle East is more of a powder keg than ever as Russia installs its S-300 missile system in Syria and mans it with Iranian teams. The continuous ramping up of events is eschatologically significant as Jesus uses the analogy of “birth pains” to describe an increase in various types of phenomena just before His return (Matt. 24:8). Additionally, the Apostle Paul likens the earth in the last days to a mother “groaning in labor” as she prepares to “give birth” to her dead at the resurrection (Rom. 8:22; Isa. 26:19). How close is the delivery? We know it must be very soon because, as any mother will tell you, once labor pains begin, the birth is certain and imminent. “Shall I bring to the moment of birth and not give delivery?” says the LORD. “Shall I who gives delivery shut the womb?” says your God (Isa. 66:9). . . .
